Choosing a bedroom lifestyle

Choosing bedroom furniture is about comfort, style and integration. Sure, comfort and style are easy enough, but what does integration mean? Think carefully about the time you spend in your home. With work, family and life’s endless errands, chances are pretty good that you don’t spend a whole lot of time in your kitchen and living room. You probably spend maybe half an hour here or there for meals and an hour or two of television or reading when you get home from work. Where do most people spend the greatest deal of their time at home?

That’s right! The bedroom. That’s why a carefully designed bedroom is so very important. You rest, sleep, spend quite moments with loved ones in your bedroom. So how do you go about integrating new bedroom furniture into your existing room?

You’ll want to choose a material for your bedroom furniture that matches the paint or paper on your wall. Do you have any hanging prints or art in your bedroom? Put together a checklist of items already occupying your bedroom, the things that constitute your color scheme. Let’s imagine the walls of your bedroom are white, with a few brightly colored art prints hung here and there. A room such as this is perfect for dark bedroom furniture -- black, matte-finished alloy or even a deep Brazilian or Chinese wood. Or, if your walls are a pale yellow, you might choose a light pine or oak. You can even buy unfinished wooden bedroom furniture and finish it with the shade of your choice. Get some wood samples and bring them into your room so you can get an idea of how your bedroom furniture will look.

So now you know the material you’d like for your bedroom furniture, and you can already imagine how relaxed you’ll feel in your beautiful, restorative bedroom. Before you buy your pieces, however, you need to think about functionality. What bedroom furniture do you need in your room to make it work for you? For some, closet and storage space are an issue. These folks could benefit from a bed with trundle storage, where they can keep extra blankets, pillows -- or anything else at all -- when they’re not being used. Some couples choose to purchase two distinctively styled dressers, while others forego dressers altogether and opt to use a closet for daily clothing storage.

There are just a few of the many ideas you can use to create your perfect bedroom. For the smart shopper and designer, buying bedroom furniture isn’t just about finding a bed on which to rest your head. It’s so much more -- when you find the right bedroom furniture, you bring home beauty, functionality and effortless, peaceful rest into your life.
